EGOS HOLDS FIRST-EVER VIRTUAL JCBS ELECTION

Ednasians braced themselves as they cast their vote for the first-ever virtual JCBS Election on 20 August 2021.

The day before the election, Casa Azul, Oro, and Verde representatives battled it out for a chance to be elected student council during the Miting De Avance. They pitched their platforms and spoke their hearts out during their speeches to persuade their schoolmates. The three parties were Oro, Verde, and Azul. Prior to the Miting de Avance, casa moderators and members had a mini-election for the picking of their bet for the said event. Each party went to different classrooms and spent 15minutes saying their speeches led by JCBS moderator, Mr. Daniel Bravo. The miting de avance happened twice as they started with the morning session and ended with the afternoon session. The program started off with the opening prayer and an opening address said by the School Principal, Mr. Florante Miranda. Every party stated their speeches one last time. Once everyone was done, they proceeded with the question and answer portion. All the candidates answered the questions with confidence and honesty.

A couple of days passed and they were ready to announce the winners. For the JCBS, Luke Karlisle P. Cuya was elected as the Chairman, Justine Jhun P. Zamora as the Vice-Chairman, Zara Marie C. Torres as the Secretary, Jacie Alynn P. Maningding as the Grade 4 Representative, Sean Andrei F. Castro for the Grade 5 Representative, and Kelly Trisha B. Melchor for the Grade 6 Representative. This year’s JCBS campaign and election are different, nonetheless successful. Once again, Ednasians have proven that the pandemic is not a hindrance to epitomize leadership and excellence.

After nearly 2 years of living through various trials and tribulations that 2021 has to offer, we surely learned a lot from previous years. From mass tense health protocols to mass vaccine programs, the medical world continues to provide groundbreaking pursuits against this invisible foe, COVID-19. Speaking of vaccines, the recent implementation of vaccines for kids aged 12-17 has been the talk of the town.

Vaccines themselves are some of the most influential medical interventions throughout history, instilling new perspectives on how we treat and address various diseases, infections, and many more. Its usage traces back from Ancient China to it being used to fight against smallpox, polio, and now, COVID-19.

As vaccines were administered to children from 12-17- year-olds and now 5 -11-year-olds, there is reason to believe that these vaccines may be an effective deterrent against the virus.

It is said that children in this age group tend to get very sick from the virus easily, as well as, develop severe complications like multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C) which can inflame different body parts such as the heart, eyes, and lungs. If a child gets a vaccine, these additional symptoms can be minimized and fewer deaths would occur.

These vaccines can also start normalizing the lives of children by slowly starting to transition back to limited face-to-face classes with health protocols. It can keep kids safe, and the people around them safe too.

On the other hand, by allowing kids to be vaccinated, the severity of the vaccine’s adverse effects may cause major discomfort to kids. Effects include chills, fevers, tiredness, and muscle pain. Furthermore, the vaccines acquired for this specific age group were sanctions as emergency use authorization issued by the FDA. With this in mind, certain side effects are yet to be discovered as these vaccines are distributed.

In its entirety, the benefits brought by this vaccine outweigh its adverse effects. Therefore, the implementation of vaccines for kids ages 5 – 11 should follow through with the government’s vaccine drives. With the emergence of the Omicron variant and the recent rise of active cases, the need for achieving herd immunity is important towards our country’s and citizens’ well-being.

As we face 2022 with an optimistic mind, we set our goals for a brighter future. Let us not forget to follow the protocols given by the government, and to always be vigilant of what we do. Face-to-face classes may be near, let us all pray and hope for the best!

What once was just a normal day in school, listening to the discussions of our teachers, interacting with our classmates, and everything else we do in school, turned into something we thought would last for only a short while. On that day, the 13th of March 2020, we were all let home because of the news of the recently discovered Coronavirus. We all packed our things excitedly, thinking that we would be able to have a break we deserved, what could go wrong?

Everything went wrong. What we once thought would only last three weeks lasted a whole year, heck, even more than a year has already passed. We all thought we would be able to see our friends again, to be able to eat and laugh with them again, work with them for projects, and everything else we considered normal, not having classes in front of our screens with limited communication with everyone else.

Now, what is this virus that caused our everyday lives to change? First reported on December 31, 2019, CoVid-19, has started to affect the people of Wuhan, China. It soon started to spread across the world, closing every establishment and making people go into lockdowns. I am pretty sure you didn’t enjoy it too, because I sure did not. It’s not really to the point that I hate it because it is actually pretty helpful, but I hated the fact that our every move is now limited to only being able to do the things we normally do in the comforts of home.

If we thought the virus was already bad enough, but to our fears, it even developed some new variants. Scientists were able to discover a few new variants namely: Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Delta; with Delta being the most dangerous. Though it is known as CoVid-19, many consider it to be actually a 20 because that was the year that the whole situation worsened. It is a tough experience for sure, but I have faith that everything will be back to normal, as long as we follow safety procedures and do everything we can to avoid the virus. I believe that we will be able to overcome this battle and hail victory. Thank you to the scientists who have worked so hard on studying this and coming up with a vaccine. All we need is patience, and all we once thought was normal will be back, and I could hang out with everyone again!

Moviegoers and movie lovers, are you all ready for this exciting news?

After a year and seven months of shutting down cinemas due to the pandemic, losing thousands of livelihood leading to massive unemployment also have not seen the big silver screen and what we can only do is to rekindle the times while walking on the aisle, buying tickets, holding our big buckets of popcorn and drinks, and sitting down beside our loved ones. Now, the long wait is over.

As NCR eases to Alert Level 3 from October 16-31, Metro Manila will be allowed to reopen cinemas and resume their operation at 30% capacity for the fully vaccinated individual only. Let’s mark our calendar together because according to the Cinema Exhibitors Association of the Philippines (CEAP), movie theaters would be in business real soon starting November 10, 2021. To give you a glimpse of the cinemas reopening this blockbuster November, here are the following: Megaworld Lifestyle Malls, Rockwell Cinemas, Starmall and Vista Cinemas, Gateway, Gateway, and Ali Mall Cineplex. With all these safety measures properly implemented, everyone will surely have a safe and enjoyable moment watching our best-loved movies amidst the ongoing health crisis. PEP WEEK MEETS OLYMPICS

After decades of the Olympics, the Philippines have finally won its first ever gold!

You might be wondering why I am saying all these stuff, well this is because our pep

week’s theme is Olympics. But first, let’s first introduce the person who had brought us the gold medal, Ms. Hydilyn Diaz. She is 30 years old. She is from Zamboanga, and she won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics where she competed in weight lifting. She lifted 224 kg which led to her victory. She is the first ever Filipino Weightlifter who had brought the success that we are looking for all throughout these years of competing.

Now, back to the main topic, the pep week. We all know that every start of classes, there is an event called the “Pep week”. Wherein we have to wear accessories based on the given theme. And each day, we will have additional accessories until your outfit will be complete. But, for this year’s start of classes, the theme is Olympics since Philippines have won the gold medal. And because of this, we just celebrated our “Most Successful Olympics Ever”. You might not know, you might be the next one to bring another gold medal in our country!

Here are some trivias that you may not know: Did you know that the Philippines first competed in the Olympic Games in 1924 in Paris. Yes, it was way back in 1924, almost a century now. We were also the first country to compete from Southeast Asia. But we won a bronze medal in 1928. This medal is from the very first Filipino to compete in Olympics, Sir David Nepomuceno.

EDNAS SCHOOL HOLDS VIRTUAL FIELD TRIP ANEW

On 13 October 2021, Wednesday, Ednas School held a virtual educational field trip.

In the said event, Grade 5 pupils got the chance to experience life in space as they watched a Youtube documentary of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) astronaut Sunita “Suni” Williams, giving a virtual tour about how astronauts survive in the ISS. The pupils also set their background on Google Meet using a selfie of them from an application called NASA selfies to further create a realistic experience of their virtual educational field trip. Mrs. Marites Cayabyab, also a Science teacher in the Grade School Department who joined the virtual field trip, said in an interview: “Here, as a science teacher, you can already integrate some lessons or concepts. We learned about the life of scientists/astronomers as they explore outer space. We learned the challenges they’re facing. It was fun! The virtual field trip was indeed a great experience for everyone!”

Another feedback from Mr. Tomeldan said: “The flow of the event was simultaneous and there was a smooth transition, that’s why the allocated time was maximized. Every student seemed to enjoy the virtual field trip because most of them were actively participating. We can prove that even in the midst of a pandemic, there are still many ways to learn by the use of technology.”

EDNASIANS CELEBRATE FESTIVAL OF SAINTS AND ANGELS VIRTUALLY

Each year in the month of October, Ednas School never fails to celebrate the Festival of Angels and Saints.

Way back then, even before Covid-19 started, Ednasians were all gathered together in the mid quad praying the holy rosary and watching up in the air the release of balloons shaped like a rosary. But now, even if pupils are physically out in school, Ednasians still continue to celebrate this feast virtually, not to mention the Feast of the Holy Rosary. Emphasizing this event was wearing saint costumes where Ednasians from all grade levels looked pious and sanctified with their chosen costumes of their saints like St. Rose of Lima, St. John Paul II, St. Felomina, St. Teresa of Calcutta, St. Therese of Lisieux, Mary the Blessed Virgin, St. Pedro Calungsod, St. Joseph and more. Some wore costumes like an angel and with respect to our non-Catholics, they wore their best Sunday dresses.

Pupils were also asked to give a little background information about the saints they portrayed so at least to inculcate in their mind the good deeds they have made and shown before becoming a saint.

But did you know why we’re celebrating this festivity? All Saints’ Day is also known as Feast of All Saints. In the Christian church, it’s a day commemorating all the saints, known and unknown, famous or not, who have gone to heaven. It was Pope Gregory III who designated November 1 also our holiday to honor all the saints.

We are so grateful to Ednas School for always teaching us to be spiritually motivated. Students learned to be more prayerful and be closer to God. With this, we could also be a saint in our own little way, after all, saints are human beings who lived holy lives in the obedience of God. We just have to bear in our minds what St. Therese of Lisieux once said, “ You cannot be half a saint; you must be a whole saint or no saint at all.”

EDNASIAN PARENTS ATTEND SECOND VIRTUAL BTSD

13-14 September 2021 — Ednasian parents partake during the Back to School Day via Google Meet.

Back to School Day is a much-awaited annual event in Ednas School where parents get to experience the excellence in teaching and classroom management of Ednasian teachers. In the demonstration, each cluster was composed of three teachers. They got thirty minutes to showcase their teaching strategies.

Parents surely enjoyed the presentations of the teachers. Back to School Day is the perfect event for the teachers to epitomize that Ednas School teaches excellence.

PAMASKONG HANDOG 2021: A HUGE SUCCESS!

Ednas Group of Schools, spearheaded by the Senior Central Board of Students and Junior Central board of Students, collaborated to give and extend utmost help this Christmas.

Christmas, the season of giving and that one holiday most kids wait for. Some people think of Christmas as a day to get presents, to eat fancy food, and to go have a vacation away from all the stress. I think it’s so much more than that though! We can share God’s blessings with everyone every day. But, this particular day represents the birth of the Son of God, so in a way, more blessings will be shared amongst us. This is why Ednas School practices the tradition of doing Pamaskong Handog.

The Pamaskong Handog is a very generous project Ednasians do every year to give to the less fortunate. It can consist of canned goods to eat and a hygienic kit to stay safe from not only CoVid-19 but also from other harmful viruses. This year, we donated to both the DSWD-HAVEN FOR CHILDREN and HOME OF PEACE MISSIONARIES. Since we were not able to be there physically.

The JCBS and CBS were there to encourage other students to donate to this good cause project. This project focuses on giving homeless people the goods that they need to live and bringing smiles to their faces. As Mother Theresa once said, “If you can’t feed a lot of people then just feed one. You may not do great things but you can do small things with great love.”

EDNASIANS DRESSED-UP FOR CHRISTMAS PEP WEEK

The Christmas week for the Ednasians was made more special because of Christmas-themed PEP Week.

PEP week is when students wear different accessories every day of the week according to the given theme. This year’s theme was Christmas. On Monday, the students were assigned to wear face shields with a Christmas design. So students had to decorate their face shield with different kinds of Christmas decorations. Students and teachers saw Santa beards, bells, and even flowers on the face shields.

On Tuesday, students were assigned to wear Santa caps or Santa headbands. On Thursday students were assigned to wear gloves with a Christmas design or Christmas mittens. Lastly, on Friday students dressed up in our Casa shirt which also had to be a Christmas design. This year’s PEP week might have been different from our previous pep weeks from past years, but it was still as fun as it was before. Even though it was online, everyone was still able to showcase their different accessories and outfits. We still had fun looking at and appreciating each other’s efforts. This also taught students that even if there is a pandemic and are restricted, Christmas will still be the same.

Have you ever experienced competing with your friends in exchange for a prize – a toy, token, food, or perhaps money? Have you ever played along the streets of your hometown sweaty and dirty as if there is no tomorrow? If yes, what were these famous childhood games called? Which one or which ones are your favorite? I’m pretty sure you have a lot to mention!

You might be feeling nostalgic right now as you reminisce about the memories you had during your younger years. Well, in Squid Game, there is more to reminisce as you watch the series. Behind its unpredicted plots, creative scenes, lively characters, are lives being painfully taken.

Squid Game is a Netflix series that features players of 456 in total. These people were offered to play a game that they should win in exchange for money. Otherwise, they would face the worst fearful death. Something horrible to even think of, however, the players were really determined to win the cash prize.

If you were chosen to participate in the game, would you? Probably not. However, that is not the case for everyone. The reason why the players opt to continue even if there is no assurance that they will survive is that they have so much debt to pay. Outside the premises of the game show awaits tons and piles of debts of every player in reality that they would rather die than pay for them. But since they do not have enough wealth to do so, they decided to continue playing a game that would either save them or kill them. One of the games featured in the series is called the “Red Light, Green Light”. This game is indeed a childhood game that is famous in South Korea. Here, the players must reach the finish line before the time runs out. In order to do so, all players must move forward until the host shouts “Red Light”. If one hears this phrase, the players should stop, and there should be no movement at all. One small movement will lead to a gunshot that will kill you.

Each episode intensifies as new rounds of games arise. Every game must be exerted with a lot of focus and intellectual tactics to surpass it; because if not, elimination resulting in death is awaiting. With all these absurd events from the game, this gives viewers a mixed emotions of fear, nervousness, and anticipation of what the next scenes are. Viewers’ feelings are heightened as much as the players do. A perfect combination of nerve-wrecking and excitement that will surely make them lose their horses. To cut the story short, only the last man standing brings home the cash prize amounting to 45,000,000 Won. Well, we do not want sound spoilers, do we? Now, see it for yourself who the endgame was. It is your turn to flip, wack, shake, and cry as you navigate yourself with the movie. Truly, a recommendable series that will surely blow up your mind.

Kon’nichiwa Otakus! Buckle-up as we are going to look at three of the best anime of 2021. Let’s go!

Fruits Basket lures viewers in with the promise of a cute story about a family that turns into animals when they’re hugged, then absolutely disarms with boatloads of generational trauma. In the last season, all of this starts to culminate, as plucky orphan Tohru Honda tries to break the curse binding the Sohma family to domineering family head Akito. But because this is Fruits Basket, everyone has their own share of trauma, Akito included. The emotional final season of Fruits Basket reveals that all is not what it seems when it comes to Akito. When the big moment happens, it’s a sweeping emotional catharsis for everyone. Have tissues on hand.

Jujutsu Kaisen was the breakout anime success of 2020 and continued strong in 2021. The story follows the young Yuji Itadori, a good-hearted school boy who one day eats an actual finger, which served as a vessel for a powerful demon called Sukuna. After consuming the finger, Itadori gets taken in by the questionable, but powerful mentor Gojo Satoru, who assembles a Naruto like cast of three central characters who work together to defeat the monsters known as curses in their world. Jujutsu Kaisen is a show that plays with the tropes of shonen anime. Whereas other shows like it tend to focus on super-human protagonists who magically power up just when the going gets rough, Jujutsu Kaisen starts with Itadori’s own weakness and him begging for the demon inside to save him. The show starts off a bit

slow, but pays off to those who spend just a little more time with it. The characters— and its women especially — are presented with care, and the three main characters develop an endearing dynamic reminiscent of siblings who like to pick on each other. Sticking around will show some of Studio Mappa’s finest work, as later fight sequences are some of the best animation to come from the studio yet. Basically, Jujutsu Kaisen is the perfect show for long-time shonen fans who are looking for something that isn’t afraid to venture off the well-trodden paths of its predecessors and conjure up something a little bit darker, a bit stranger.

Violet Evergarden, a young girl formerly known as “the weapon”, has left the battlefield to start a new life at CH Postal Service. There, she is deeply moved by the work of “Auto Memories Dolls”, who carry people’s thoughts and convert them into words. Violet begins her journey as an Auto Memories Doll, and comes face to face with various people’s emotions and differing shapes of love. There are words Violet heard on the battlefield, which she cannot forget. These words were given to her by someone she holds dear, more than anyone else. She does not yet know their meaning but she searches to find it.

There are a lot more anime that are worthy of binge watching like Tokyo Revengers, Those Snow White Notes, To Your Eternity, The World Ends With You, Mars Red, ODDTAXI, Seven Knights Revolution: Hero Successor, and Shadows House. These are some of the best anime of 2021 and we are all excited for more. This is it for now, sayonara otakus!

The COVID-19 vaccines are now in the Philippines! Have you had your shot? Let’s talk about it!

Before we begin talking about the different types of Covid vaccines, let us first discover what vaccines do at most, why it’s important to take them, the types of vaccines, and the side effects of taking them. Vaccines are commonly known to be effective, are safe to take, and can most definitely protect us from illnesses. It’s important to take them because it protects us from any sickness, helps the immune system grow stronger, and helps us live longer, especially since the Covid-19 has started. It’s

recommended to take the vaccine so we wouldn’t get affected by it. Although, it’s important to know the vaccine’s components due to them having different structures that could trigger the immune system differently. Let’s get to know the different types of Covid vaccines and the requirements.

The Sinovac Coronavac is a vaccine that is an inactivated virus with Adjuvant. The inactivated virus is made of dead bacteria that will teach the immune system to grow antibodies while the Adjuvant stimulates the system which helps in boosting the vaccine and makes it even more effective. The recommended dose/s for this is 2 and has a 51% efficacy against Covid. The required age for this is 18 years old and above and an interval of 2-4 weeks.

The Pfizer BioNTech vaccine has a part of mRNA vaccine which teaches the cells to make a safe or harmless piece of what’s called “spike protein” which triggers an immune response inside our bodies. The recommended – dose/s for this is 2 and has a 95% efficacy against Covid.

and above and no interval.

Of course, there are side effects from taking the vaccines; however, these are just normal. What are you waiting for? This is our shot! Don’t hesitate, let’s vaccinate!

Each day, a lot of species go extinct. Sometimes It is due to natural causes but most of the time it’s about “our” inhumane activities like poaching, deforestation, and animal killing. Like plants and other living things, animals have an important role in human lives or what we call symbiotic relationships.

Animals, species of all kinds either big or small, scary or cute, should be protected at all costs. Why? Considering that the population of different species and varieties of animals has lessened rapidly and as of this year, over 77 billion animals have been killed. Some examples of species that are likely to be extinct by this year are Vaquita, Lemurs, and Javan Rhinoceros. Their existence or survival depends greatly on humans. We were reminded of their importance when Noah was instructed by God to save some animals because they are needed by humans too.

This issue should be solved now before it worsens. We must give them importance by starting to follow the 3R Recycle, Reduce and Reuse. One thing to do is to have

ecological balance. By doing so, we could propagate them and bee able to let our children, grandchildren and even our great great grandchildren see them. Do your part before it’s too late!

Legendary boxer, Manny Pacquiao loses last fight to Yordenis Ugas

21 August 2021 — Manny Pacquiao, a Filipino, is one of the greatest boxers of all time. He is an 8 division champion, with many fans worldwide. There is no doubt about his prowess and intelligence inside the ring. Throughout his career and years of experience in the ring he was seen to continuously strive to develop his skill sets, a unique southpaw fighter. Probably, in this generation no other fighter can match or beat his records.

The phenomenal success in his career is driven by his passion and love for boxing, hard work, and perseverance. He is also known as someone who rose from rags to riches. Manny Pacquiao is also admired for his heart for giving back to the needy and sharing his blessings to others, especially to poor and struggling people. He paved the way for other Filipino boxers to be recognized in the international boxing scene.

His last fight was with Yordenis Ugas from Cuba. Sadly he lost this fight. Some of the possible reasons why Manny Pacquiao lost to Yordenis Ugas is his old age. Manny Pacquiao is about 43 years old. Which could explain why he lost. Another possible reason is over training. As Pacquiao said “I think it was too much work”. Let’s also consider the fact that Manny Pacquiao also only had 3 weeks to prepare for his fight with Yordenis Ugas. There was a major change that caused a switch in competitors. Resulting in Manny Pacqiao only being able to prepare for 3 weeks. A few days after the match, Manny Pacquiao realizes that the day has come to end his career hereby recently announcing his retirement.

His career ended but he is still worthy to have something worth emulating to inspire people no matter how difficult life is, no matter what the status of everyone, success is not far away as long as you persevere in life, care for others and most importantly have the right attitude and faith in God.

Blacklist sweeps Onic PH to win Mobile Legends world crown

Metro Manila (December 19) — Blacklist International swept Onic PH in the all-Filipino grand final of the M3 World Championship, 4-0, to claim the much-coveted esports title Sunday at the Suntec Convention and Exhibition Centre in Singapore.

It was a rematch of sorts as both teams faced each other in the Mobile Legends Professional League-Philippines Season 8 final, where Blacklist successfully defended its title. Onic PH was off to a hot start in the first match, but it could not sustain the advantage as Blacklist came back firing late in the game. With the momentum on its side, Blacklist punished Onic PH’s sloppy plays to build a 2-0 series advantage.

Just like in the opening match, Blacklist overpowered Onic PH in team fights to establish a commanding series edge. Blacklist was just too much to handle in the fourth match, dominating all the objectives en route to the victory. Kiel “Oheb” Soriano was hailed the Playoffs Most Valuable Player.

Blacklist became the second Filipino team to bag the Mobile Legends world championship crown after Bren Esports won the previous edition of the highly competitive tournament.

Blacklist will be taking home the grand prize of $300,000 (about ₱15 million), while Onic PH gets $120,000 (about ₱6 million).

Members of the team said they will donate a portion of their winnings to the relief efforts for victims of Typhoon Odette.
